How to Participate:
1. Share Your Story:
•Share your own or a story about a woman around you who is interested in retro gaming on Mechdiy’s official community(Leave a comment at the bottom of this page) or social media platforms (such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook).
•The story can be in the form of text, a photo, or a short video. Content ideas include childhood memories, gaming anecdotes, the influence of female characters, etc.
2. Engage on Social Media:
•Like the corresponding Mechdiy social media post.
•In the comment section of that post, tag two friends.
•When posting your story, include the event hashtags: #HerRetroGamingStory #womansday #mechdiy and tag the official account: @mechdiythereal.

On a rainy Saturday afternoon, the soft hum of the old console echoed through the living room. My mother in her early thirties, sat cross-legged on the couch, I recall being nestled beside her. I was 10, wide-eyed with excitement, holding a game controller as if it were a treasure.
“Ready, Mom?” I said with my fingers twitching in anticipation.
My mom laughed adjusting her glasses. “I’m always ready to beat you at this one.” (Tekken 3)
It wasn’t just the game that drew us together; it was the shared joy, and the memories we built.
I remember, focusing on the screen, and saying, “I think I’ve got it this time. I’m going to beat you.”
My mom, “You sure about that? Last time you were this close, and then I took over and destroyed you!”
I groaned, but knew it was all in good fun. Video games were our thing, the one space where we could always meet halfway, where my mom was no longer just “Mom,” but a fierce competitor, a partner in crime.
Video games with my mom was always a beautiful thing.

Happy Women’s Day! The women in our world continue to inspire and innovate each and everyday especially with retro gaming. It amazes me to see how my mother inspired me to have such a unique love with retro gaming as the first console she introduced me to was her atomic purple Gameboy Color that used duct tape to hold the back together. She introduced me to Atari which only grew my love for retro gaming further and I was obsessed. Ms. Pac-man has to be the first female retro character I fell in love with. As simple as it is, Ms Pac-man (one of the first games given to me by my mother), paved the way for future gaming to not only hold an equal role for excitement but showed that diversity and inclusion for all can lead to so much more. I remember that Ms. Pac-man didn’t just show me that women could be the lead role, but it showed me how she shone through with her character and quirky personality. I grew up to always play Kitana, Mileena and Nitara in Mortal Kombat; Mileena being my favorite and the absolute worst nightmare even for Liu Kang.. Princess Peach was always my first pick in every Mario Kart/Party played. Female characters in retro gaming have always played a role in my life and the women in my life have inspired me towards my love for female characters in retro gaming and retro gaming alone. Without Women there wouldn’t be balance in the world or to me, any fun in retro gaming!
Happy Women’s Day, my wife’s favorite game is Super Mario, of which Princess Vicky is her favorite!
